Members of NA Armenia Faction Meet with Delegation Led by Chair of European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs
1 / 5

On July 22, the members of the NA Armenia Faction Anna Grigoryan and Artur Khachatryan met with the Delegation led by the Chair of the European Parliament’s Committee on Foreign Affairs David McAllister. David McAllister informed that they would like to get acquainted with the viewpoints and proposals of the parliamentary opposition related to the inter-political developments, the foreign policy being pursued by the RA Government, its alternatives and other issues.

According to the member of the faction Anna Grigoryan, the Delegation visited Armenia in the hardest times for our country, when there are very serious border problems with Azerbaijan, when the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh status is not resolved, when the Azerbaijani troops intruded the sovereign territory of Armenia and until today are there – in Syunik and in Gegharkunik. Anna Grigoryan underlined that if the issue of the Nagorno Karabakh status is not resolved, we cannot speak about the end of the conflict. “We should resolve the issue of the status through further negotiations,” she stressed.

The member of the faction Artur Khachatryan presented the problem of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict, referring to the ways of its settlement and the three well-known principles of the OSCE Minsk Group. “Since 1992 in all international documents there has been one distinct message, which has not been changed for 30 years, particularly, the inadmissibility of the use of force. Thus, Azerbaijan violated all these calls, in 2020 unleashing war and changing the status-quo. The international community, particularly the European Union, if they agree with this status-quo, then it means they let Azerbaijan ignore the calls which have been laid on the table for 30 years, particularly, they have violated the principles of the Helsinki Final Act, that is, the exclusion of the use and the threat of force for changing the situation,” the deputy underlined.

The members of the faction also touched upon the destruction of the Armenian cultural heritage by Azerbaijan, the policy of ethnic cleansing in Nagorno Karabakh. “The right of the self-determination of the Nagorno Karabakh population shall be respected. Reinforce the security situation in Nagorno Karabakh,” Artur Khachatryan underscored, addressing his European colleagues.
